One study found that 59% weren’t comfortable with their skin with the main concerns being body image (68%) and skin problems (67%). It’s not easy to address these concerns when you feel like everyone else around you already has flawless skin.
One way to give your skin the TLC it deserves is through Laser Fractional Resurfacing. When it comes to facial rejuvenation, Fractional Laser Treatment is a powerful tool that can significantly improve:
- Skin Tone
- Overall Skin Texture
- Hyperpigmentation
- Acne and other scars
- Sun damage.

What is Laser Fractional Surfacing Treatment?
Fractional Laser is a medical rejuvenation treatment that functions by removing a small fraction of the skin surface, leaving a scaffolding of intact dermis behind. The treated areas contain skin cells that flake off to reveal new, healthy skin underneath. When your body heals the tiny fractional wounds, it begins to stimulate collagen remodeling in the process. This new collagen growth helps to improve fine lines and wrinkles while the removed fractional cores improve pigment issues and give the treated skin a refreshed overall look! There are several different types of laser resurfacing. They are generally divided into ablative, non-ablative lasers and fractional lasers. The most commonly used lasers for fractional facial rejuvenation include Carbon Dioxide CO2 (Fraxel and CO2RE) and Erbium Lasers (Pearl and Pixel).
How Do Laser Fractional Resurfacing Treatments Work?
Fractional Laser Treatment works by using beams of light energy to remove columns of skin while leaving the surrounding tissues intact. The tiny wounds that are created by the laser stimulate a healing response, activating collagen production and bringing growth factors to the skin. The intact areas of epidermis allow a faster healing time.
Generally, the fractional lasers treat about 20% of the surface of the skin with these micro-columns. Healing from a fractional laser treatment takes about one-to-two weeks, with five-to-seven days of “social downtime.” This is compared to a fully ablative laser treatment which can require several weeks of social downtime. A single fractional treatment will give you impressive results. You will notice a change in as little as a week with continued improvement for up to 12 weeks after the treatment.
How long does it take to see Laser Fractional Resurfacing Results?
Once the majority of the redness and swelling resolves (after three-to-five days) you will begin to appreciate the improvements in the treatment area resulting from your fractional procedure. Patients will notice a smoother skin texture with less pigment concerns as well as an improvement in fine lines. As your skin begins to produce new collagen, you will appreciate an improvement in the deeper lines as well as a tightening of the skin. The first results can be see about three months after treatment!
How long do Laser Fractional Resurfacing results last?
The results of your laser skin resurfacing will typically last between one and five years. The wide range is a reflection of the wide range of patients and concerns that we treat with fractional lasers.
If you are treating acne scars for example, the results will be long-lasting as long as the acne is under control. If you are treating sun damage and you have continued sun exposure, your results won’t last very long. If you use SPF regularly, you may extend your results.
In regards to using laser resurfacing for treatment and prevention of aging and rejuvenation, the duration of your results will depend on how old you are, your skin care regimen, what other skin treatments you are having, how fast your body breaks down collagen and many other factors.
Is Laser Fractional Resurfacing Treatment painful?
Most times, your provider will offer oral sedation for added comfort throughout the laser treatment. A combination of topical numbing creams followed by nerve blocks and local anesthetic injections are also great suggestions to discuss before your treatment. Following the procedure, you can expect a sunburn-like sensation with redness and flaking; some experience mild swelling depending on the treated areas (with treatment of the eyelids the swelling can be significant).
Can I stop injections if I do Laser Fractional Resurfacing Treatments?
Botox and Dysport are treatments that improve wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause the wrinkles. Fractional laser treatment does not affect the muscles, so you will able to continue to wrinkle the skin after a fractional laser treatment. Continuing or adding these injections will help prevent the lines from becoming deeper. We generally recommend combination therapy with Pearl Fractional Laser and Botox or Dysport to get an optimal result .
