Acne and Self-Confidence
The primary mission of Imagen is to help our patients look and feel their best. While our clinic offers body sculpting solutions including liposuction and skin-tightening, for many, confidence starts with their face. Acne can seriously dampen self-confidence and cause us to avoid social situations, which can lead to depression. Furthermore, some adults struggling with adult-acne may find it difficult to date or progress in their career because they are discouraged by their appearance. Our staff has spent years training and perfecting facial rejuvenation so you can eliminate your skin concerns and feel confident putting your best face forward. With free consultations, there is no risk in taking the first step toward acne-free skin with the help of Imagen.

Acne FAQs
What is Acne?
This common skin condition includes everything from blackheads and whiteheads to blemishes and cysts. Most experience some form of acne on their face or neck during their lifetime, but it is also common to have acne on the chest and back.
What Causes Acne?
There are a few things that cause Acne; One cause is clogged pores. Our pores can be clogged by dead skin cells and oil buildup. The skin can also become inflamed by bacteria, especially when the bacteria is trapped inside a clogged pore. Our hands are a common source of bacteria on the face as are environmental aggressors like smog and cigarette smoke. Using the wrong products for your skin can also lead to acne. Other common causes of acne are hormonal changes and poor diet.
Does Dairy Cause Acne?
Studies have demonstrated that the hormones in milk and cheese can in-fact lead to acne. For others, a sensitivity to lactose protein leads to inflammation which can present as acne. If you are struggling with consistent acne, consider eliminating dairy for at least a month to see if your skin improves. For a non-dairy source of Calcium and vitamin D, consider taking a multivitamin and substituting with soy or almond milk.
How is Acne Treated?
There are several options for treating and preventing acne at Imagen. Our board-certified cosmetic surgeons specialize in facial rejuvenation and can help you with everything from healing active acne with products and chemical peels, to restoring even tone and texture with exfoliating products and laser resurfacing. Skin and acne do not have a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s important to schedule a complementary exam and get the advice of a doctor before attempting to treat your acne. While one product or treatment could work for you, it may be too much for someone with sensitive skin. Similarly, gentle exfoliation could do the trick while another may need deeper resurfacing to resolve their acne issues.
Does Acne Get Worse Before It Gets Better?
There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to see improvement after starting your doctor-recommended regimen. It does take some weeks for our skin cells to turnover, so we recommend our patients remain diligent with their prescribed skincare and treatment regimen for at least eight weeks before they re-evaluate.
Do You Recommend Accutane for Treating Acne?
Accutane is a strong drug that Imagen does not prescribe. Because of the potential risks associated with Accutane, it is generally used a last resort. The potential side-effects of Accutane are dryness, headache, depression, bad mood and GI complications.
Chemical Peel
From $325
Chemical Peels can offer significant improvement in the tone and texture of your skin. They slough off the dead layer of skin on the surface, revealing new skin underneath. At the same time they even out tone.
PRP + Microneedling
From $500
PRP is also useful in treating scars. The growth factors in the PRP stimulate remodeling in the scar and can help to improve the appearance. It is often combined with lasers and/or microneedling for even better results*.
Fractional Laser Resurfacing
From $500
Fractional laser treatment works by removing columns of skin while leaving behind areas of intact skin. The tiny wounds that are created by the laser stimulate a healing response, activating collagen production and bringing growth factors to the skin.
Laser Genesis
From $250
Often referred to as the “Red Carpet Facial” because of the glow it produces, Laser Genesis is a must-have treatment for anyone looking to prevent aging and promote overall skin quality.
